A long time ago on this list a solution to this problem was presented
which involved a very dilute version of some sort of acid, available
through your local pharmacy. But the simpler solution is to use 1.) lemon
juice, or 2.) dilute white vinegar. I've used both to remove that white
"plaque" with excellent results. Just soak for 15 minutes or so, then
rinse with lukewarm (room temperature) water.
