The original post inquired about "cleaning cloths." The poster apparently
meant pull-through swabs, but it was not 100% clear (at least to me)
whether that was the meaning, or whether a key polishing cloth might have
been intended.

I usually hear BOTH of your examples referred to as "swabs," but your
less-favorite version is so seldom used in my experience (except, of
course, that I myself had that kind when I first started) that it needs to
be specifically defined or the pull-through variety is assumed. Actually,
I still use one of those fuzzy sticks, but for bore oiling only.
