Subj: [kl] Concave vs. flat table
Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 22:10:34 -0400

Greg Smith says: <<The Zinner concavity is a constant just as a flat table is a constant.

Reed performance is somewhat more forgiving because of a concavity - the concavity's purpose to accommodate minute variables and instabilities inevitable in any reed, prepared or not.

Flat tables have indeed always exposed the idiosyncrasies of the reed more readily. >>

Wow, Greg...thanks for expressing that, in that way, and so well......

I need to give this some thought, but my gut feel is that the concept articulated above is right on target.

Walter....who is hoping everyone else is finding this as fascinating as I am. Roger, Greg, Clark...I commend each of you for discussing all of this so openly and frankly.

Now if we could only pull Richard Hawkins into this discussion.........Paging Richard....are you out there anywhere Richard??????????
