Concavites in a mouthpiece table are of three types, at least in my =
experience.

1. The Zinners and Vandorens usually are concave from about a third of =
the way up the table to half way up the side rails. This does allow the =
top screw of the ligature to adjust the feel of the actual opening.=20

2. According to another MP maker not on this list, Mr Matsen (sp) uses a =
smaller concavity centered on the table and does not extend into the =
rails.

3. A third type is rather small and is an almost oval (up and down) in =
the center of the table, which does not extend to the rails, nor to the =
edge of the table either. This third type seems to add a certain =
something to the sound which I like, yet has minimal effect on the reed.

By the way, this discussion the past few days has been very enlightening. =
Thanks to all.
