As both a gadget freak and a tightwad (a bad combination!), I'm glad I'm not
alone in liking one of the cheapest reed holders on the market! Works fine
for me. For honkin' big bass sax reeds, I just use a piece of glass with
elastic (from the fabric store) tied around it. That works fine, too.

The only problem I have with the Vito holders is that if a certain c-a-t can
get her paws on them, she'll play hockey. For a nifty little storage unit to
keep out the c-a-t while letting reeds dry gradually with some air around
them at home, the Vito holders, in up to bass clarinet/tenor sax size, can be
stacked in an old-fashioned cigarette case. Pocket cases will only hold one
reed holder, but desktop cases will hold a stack of two or three. I see
these cigarette cases at flea markets all the time. Some are expensive
collectibles, but a lot of beauties that look like they belong in a film
noir from the 1940s or 1950s sell for as little as two to ten US dollars,
depending on the materials. I'd rather put reeds in there than cancer sticks
anyway! For travel or carrying in an instrument case, a plastic trading card
box from the comic book store will hold the clarinet size of Vito reed holder
without scratching up other things in the case.
