I normally just lurk and such but being that when I am not playing
clarinet :-( I am forced to make money as an A.B.O. Certified optician, I
thought I would respond. My best advise (without haveing you right in front
of me) is that at your next eye exam you should tell the Dr. that you play
clarinet and would like to have an Rx for everyday use and for reading music
(the Dr. will have heard this before, believe me!) Sometimes it helps if
you bring in the music stand, but if you know the approximate distance from
you to the music you should be fine. I recommend that the music pair NOT be
a no-line or progressive multifocal lens. You will probobly get the best
use out of a flat top 35mm bifocal with the top of the bifocal (segment
height) set at about 1mm lower than your pupil when looking straight ahead.
Most bifocals are 28mm wide but the 35mm bifocals will let you see a wider
range side to side for maybe $15.00 more.

I think that this has started to sound like to much jargon... maybe
just print it out, it will help explain what your needs are to the person
who actually fits the glasses. (I hope they forgive me for telling them how
to do their job ;-) )

I hope this helps in some way.
