And interestingly enough, it doesn't FEEL short to the embouchure! And no
thanks to all that table work. That style is easier achieved using different
blanks.
Clark continues << If one knows what he/she is looking for there is a lot to

Clark, want to send me 10 or so of your Kaspars to examine? Yeah, that's what
I thought. (non-serious moment).
Mr. Fobes IS correct in saying that way too much attention is placed on
facings, as several of us have found this year. If you disregard baffle and
bore configuration, and just copy a facing from one mouthpiece to another,
there is every possibilty that they will not play equally. (Was that a double
negative???).
Also, even though I generally strive for a symmetrical facing in my work, I
will let a slightly asymmetrical facing out the door.
Just a few days ago, I mailed out a bass mouthpiece which has a slight but
measureable skew to the right. The mouthpiece played SO WELL, however, that I
was loath to change it in any way. Does the slight asymmetry add the the
richness and complexity of the tone coming from this mouthpiece? I am not
prepared to say.
However, I will tell you something. I would rather have the mouthpiece play
beautifully, and have a slight departure from my intended dimensions, than to
have "theoritical" perfection, and wind up with a bland mouthpiece.
Enough said....
Clark, thank you again for your contribution. I learn something from every
post you send. Should I be sending you checks for my appreticeship????
Cheers!
