I had a special pair of glasses made up, called "carpenter's glasses."

A carpenter often has to have the reading portion of the glass much
higher than the normal height. So the lens consists of the the reading
portion occupying 2/3 of the lower section of the lens, and the distance
portion occupying the upper 1/3.

That way when you play and have to look up at the conductor, your eyes
use the distance portion, but when you look down your eyes have access
to the reading portion.
