Fun stuff:

A student who has been reading the interesting discussion regarding sanding
the back of a reed and I are now doing a simple test during her lesson:

Using 2 Grand Concert Select Reeds that measure 3.02 and 3.06 mm
respectively, we sanded the back of the 3.06 with 320 and then 600 grit for
a smooth seal on the back. Of course, we didn't have time for curing over
a 3 day period, but we can do that starting this weekend!

We measured the 3.06 after sanding, and it was 3.02 before blowing on.

We are now soaking the reeds and will determine if they feel any different
or lose any response.

This is highly unscientific as there is no control as to if either reed
would have responded well or badly to begin with....! But it is
interesting nonetheless. And for extra fun, we will test them on
asymetrical/open facing, symetrical/open facing, asymetrical/medium facing.

More later!

Sincerely,
Roger Garrett
