In my experience I find it is best to let them finish the last stages of
their drying in a grooved holder. This helps prevent the low density cane
from distorting or "redistributing" itself during the drying process. This
process is especially effective I find if I seal the reed on both sides just
before it is dry, therefore stabilising the cane.

Repeating this process several times over a couple of days reinforces this
stability and with a little balancing at the tip it plays well.
