Bill they are quite common.

There is no way to tell if a mouthpiece is asymmetrical without measuring with feeler gauges, the differences are way too small. We're talking differences in thousandths or ten thousandths of an inch from one side to the other.

And you're right. Gibson makes no mention of asyemmetry in his book on clarinet acoustics. Many other texts do take this up, however.
