But Walter, the only way to sound more like David (in terms of tone
concept) is to reproduce what he does in terms of air, embouchure, voicing,
etc.........

Funny thing about when I studied with him, he sounded the same on my
refaced Blayman E mouthpiece as he did on his Pyne.

and had I believe equally "musically significant" learning experiences with
him. However, Roger and I appear to be going in opposite directions in our
mouthpiece endeavors.

producing. My tip opening range from 1.00 to 1.05 mm. This is much closer
than those mouthpieces that I played on for years and years!!!!!!!!!

David plays on a 1.24-1.26 tip though........just a minor issue.

>My quest, is therefore a personal one, and is totally integrated with my
clarinet playing and my approach to the clarinet (as I imagine Roger's is
as well).

Walter has successfully presented the point I was making regarding
differences in blanks and designs. Actually, I think his approach is more
similar to Richard Hawkins' than mine - which means we are making
mouthpieces with the same goals but with different techniques.

>We could talk high baffle, low baffle, scooped baffle, short facing, long
facing, here, but it means nothing without the mouthpiece in front of you,
The only thing to do is to experiment like crazy and push the ENVELOPE like
mad!

Hmmmmmm......well, there are many things that a scooped baffle does for the
sound and pitch that a straight baffle does not. So it could mean
something......

>Question answered?

Will it ever be????? LOL
