Greg Smith says:

<<In my experience, both of these models allow for a low register that is as full as is possible in the symphonic, chamber and solo conditions that I
play.>>

Walter says: I concur with Greg 100%.

I also understand what Roger is talking about. With reed preparation for 1 1.12 to 1.2 mm tip, the tip of the reed must be taken down to a very thin edge. (This is the style of reed-making that I learned from John Mohler at University of Michigan). With a tip this thin, the reed will tend to close up when you really need to blow.

I now prepare my reeds with less of a paper thin tip. This also makes the reeds less fragile, and they seem to last longer for me.

I believe what we are talking about her is reed style and adjustment. Right guys?

Greg further says: <<One of the major things that distinguishes the two styles of mouthpiece
making mentioned is that I apply symmetrical facings only.>>

I also greatly prefer a symmetrical facing as it makes reed preparation that much easier.
