David,

I have experienced the feeling of walking or running in 3/4 time as you
describe.

I didn't think of it as less aggressive, although that makes sense.

I use 3/4 for the balancing effect on the body.
Since i tend to push stronger with my left leg, the alternating 'accents'
even the way i use the muscles, i can walk farther with less fatigue.

The musical benefit is that this builds a
muscle and nerve sense of precise two against three rhythm.

And pedaling bicycle tends to 6/8 feel, which i consciously change to
9/8.

Interesting that our bodies are built in mostly in two(bilateral
symmetry) so most of our kinesthetic sense in duple then grouping in
three has been perceived as transcendent by different people in different
times.

I wonder if this goes beyond European based culture?
