At a master class or concert (Fred Ormand, I think), I heard that
Stravinsky (I think) wanted two clarinets in a clarinet solo (Three
Pieces, I think) partly because he liked to see the clarinetist come
marching onto the stage with two instruments. Performance values, not
music values.
