It seems that you seized on a sidebar issue, Dan. Bill's primary question
dealt with tonality vs. the general acoustical properties of the clarinet
(regardless of which kind of clarinet) throughout its acoustical range.
He only mentioned A vs. Bb as part of his question to his teacher. If you
have thoughts on whether certain written key signatures (as opposed to clar-
inet keys) produce a different affect (as opposed to *e*ffect), I would be
interested in reading them.
