Subj: [kl] "peach back pads"
Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2000 23:11:14 -0400

For the last year or so I have been using Ferree's white kit
bassoon pads for restoring antique metal clarinets. These
are medium thickness. When you need them to be thinner, you
can shave the leather in back. I recently call to order
bladder (fish skin) pads and was asked if I wanted to try
the -- and I may have this a little wrong -- the "peach back
pads". What's the difference? 1) they have some sort of
coating and last longer. 2) they cost more than twice as
much.
I know that there has been a lot of discussion about a
type of pads with a teflon coating, but that those pads
don't come in all sizes and are really expensive -- more
than twice what the peach back pads cost.

Has anyone tried the peach back pads? are they worth
the extra cost?

Is there a pad seller who sells leather pads in thin
sizes? (As in someone I could call besides Ferrees?)

thanks
Jim Lande
