The E-I3 is one step below an R-13. This is a step most students skip. I was
told that the E-13 was an R-13 that wasn't quite up to grade. I'm not sure
how that would be determined at the factory. See if it is made in Germany or
France (it should be imprinted on the clarinet). If it is mde in France then
it probably has more in common with the R-13 than with the other E-series
(student) models. I haven't repaired any, so I can't tell from personal
experience how it compares. Besides sound and intonation are the most
important factors and sound varies widely among all models.
