... followed by good advice about how to vet the instrument to make sure it's
repairable. I agree. From grade school through high school, my brother's Bb
soprano clarinet was a wooden Leblanc Noblet made around the mid-1950s. My
parents bought it used. In theory, both his clarinet and mine, a wooden Conn
Director of about the same age, were intermediate instruments. They sold for
similar prices. In reality, the Noblet was by far the better clarinet and
more value for the dollar. The biggest difference was that the Noblet had
much better intonation than the Conn, but IMHO the tone quality was also
better and the keys were more comfortable.
