<><> "Pregnant" is not the most usual meaning - "copulated with"
is what the average man on our Blackbird leys omnibus would take it to
mean. Her hosts seem to have been ignoring the context rather
considerably, though.

Oh! Well, this is a perfect example of what can go wrong during
Internet conversations. I doubt I would've told the story here if I'd
known that detail. For all these years, no one has ever come forward
to tell me this.
The end of the story is heartwarming, however. My daughter and her
host family became close friends. They have visited and stayed with my
daughter and her family here in the U.S. every fourth or fifth year.
There are two words in your post that I don't recognize:
"Blackbird" and "leys". When I was reading, I assumed that you are
referring to a dictionary of some sort amd I moved on. Depending on the
details again, I could be missing an important point just because we
live in different subcultures.

This really has been an excellent demonstration of the potential
pitfalls of Internet communication. If you add a simple 'translation'
error to an otherwise peaceful discussion, you can end up with an
explosion.

Cheers,
Bill
