Someone asked about what was difficult as a Clarinet solo. I'll expand
that, and ask what goes in the most difficult Band rep. category for Clarinet.
One that comes in mind is the Wagner Das Lied Der Apostel ("spelling" going
from memory of about 15 years ago when I saw it) - taken in 1 with 16th
notes 4/4 meter (Pres. Marine Band did it) at about 60 bpm to the measure.
3 pages of 16 notes, it isn't only the speed - its the endurance, and
concentration of going that long, and that fast. And some of it doesn't
even lay well.
