Hi Ian,

For me it is not so much a matter of one-upmanship as it is putting someone
down to make a point. If I was in a room debating an issue with someone
and had several others who could chime in at any time and the person I was
debating with decided to call me names, I wouldn't hesitate to tell him in
front of everyone else that it was really inappropriate. I put that kind
of situation in the same light as the list. You will notice that I didn't
call anyone names or tell someone that they were a silly person because
they held the view that they did - but I do get upset when someone does
that to me. I don't like being called names.....I would venture others
don't either. It reminds me of what kids do to each other when they can't
think of any other way to "get back" at the other person. *sigh*

That's all. I really don't mind disagreement, just
rudeness......especially rudeness followed by denial.

I hope you don't view this posting as anything more than trying to explain
my involvement with "flames"......although these were pretty tepid flames
compared to my ridiculous antics several years ago........maybe I'm
mellowing.....what do YOU think?

Best wishes,
Roger Garrett
