Walter and Roger, your part of this thread interests me. I have always felt
like an oddball because I can barely do syllables at all without the
mouthpiece in my mouth. Yet, I do not have a slow tongue. Yes, I have to
work at tonguing, sure - I think most people do (more or less, on whatever
level you play on, of course), but when i have the clarinet in my mouth, I
do not have a "slow tongue"; yet, I get "tongue tied" when i have to make
syllable with no clarinet there - I have to tongue on the back of my top
teeth like i do for flute, which is an entirely different animal than
tonguing for clarinet, at least in my personal experience.
