Klarinet Archive - Posting 000965.txt from 2000/09

From: Bilwright@-----.net (William Wright)
Subj: [kl] Brahms Sonata No. 2
Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 21:01:28 -0400

My instructor showed me today how severely I was altering my
embouchure and breath when I dropped from Bb to E, and I now understand
what was wrong with my E.
But she also explained that an A clarinet has a much sweeter tone
(sorry about the metaphor) at the bottom of the staff than a Bb clarinet
does. She couldn't remember whether Brahms wrote the sonata for A or
Bb. The edition that I have seems to indicate clearly Bb, but I wanted
to ask: is this true?

Thank you,
Bill
