This makes a whole lot of sense to me.

My single tonguing is faster-in-longer-groups since i have also learned
to double-tongue.

I *suspect* at least two reasons for this improvement.

physical skill improvement

experience & reason for higher expectations

Attitude is important for me, and could vary for others, because i also
had some improvement on repeated tonguing after learning viola, where
repeated sixteenths (etc) on the same note are VERY easy and idiomatic.
