Oh, come on, Walter. Don't say things like that.

Our culture is quite sufficiently hyped up into mechanical perfection as
it is. And actually, having sat on audition panels, I don't think it's
representative of the attitude of the musicians who are listening for
someone they might want to give the job to.

Naturally, technical expertise is a part of what's needed. But it's by
no means everything. Perhaps Dave's nerves blocked his bringing the
music to life, rather than just having him make some mistakes, and
*that* was what tilted the balance in favour of someone else.

All of this is a big subject, and I don't think there are any magical
solutions. Something that I found useful was a course called 'The
Mastery', run by The Actors' Institute in New York. I don't know
whether they still do it.

I dunno. I *don't* make my living in computers because I haven't wanted
to take the time to find out enough to be able to do that. And I *do*
make my living in playing, despite encountering nerves just as much as
the next man, probably.

They say they practically had to *throw* Horowitz onto the stage.
