You mean, he holds the E to the end of the bar?
Measure #2 in the first movement (Schirmer, edited by Simon) is
printed:
B/2 - E/4 - rest/8 - D/8
but Leister's recording is:
B/2 - dotted E/4 - D/8
It's true that Leister plays the dotted E/4 diminuendo, but unless I'm
deaf, it's definitely not a quarter note followed by a rest. I was
assuming that this was a matter of permissible expression. I think that
it sounds better this way -- more fluidity and motion. But I'm still at
the 'stumbling along' stage, so perhaps I'll change my mind.
<><> E3? You mean E2, surely.
Perhaps I don't know what E3 means? I mean the E on the lowest
line of the staff.
<><> And usually it's the Bb that's horrible....
Normally that's what my ear tells me unless I use the trill keys;
but in this case, my E before the (printed) 1/8 rest in measure #2
sounds miserable to me. Tomorrow morning, when the family is awake, I'm
going to see what my tuner says. Perhaps the interval is messing me up.
Thanks.
