Personal Testimony: With a closed tip mouthpiece tonguing is faster and cleaner.
Some power is lost, unless you find the right one. Try the Clark Fobes San Francisco
Model. Everybody has loved my sound since I obtained one. Power is not a problem because of the projection that I get.

Subject: [kl] Re: Correlation - tip opening and tonguing speed???

As a result of working extensively with mouthpieces for the past two years, I
have found that for my personal playing I prefer a much closer tip opening
that that wich I used for years.

Ever since graduate school, I have been playing on mouthpieces with a tip
opening ca. 1.11 - 1.13 mm.

On the mouthpieces I use now, I find I am much more comfortable with a much
closer tip, anywhere from 1.00 to 1.04.

Also, I have enjoyed a much welcome improvement in speed, accuracy, and
endurance in my tonguing speed. I HAVE been playing a lot....but I played a
lot in the past.

Can I then assume, that the closer tip opening has facilitated my tonguing
speed?

I would invite opinions or anecdotal evidence eith confirming or disputing
this theory.

Regards,
Walter
