I have had some luck with my own three year old. my 5 year old twins
occasionally want to give it a blow, but they quickly lose interest.
However, about three times a week, more or less, my three year old, Amy,
will come into my office and want to play her "little clarinet". She holds
it by herself, with correct hand position. She can just about cover the
holes, and the last time she blew into the instrument, she got a fairly
pleasant tone for a beginner. I was surprised. I do not force her to do
this. In fact, it makes me nervous, as she is rather excitable, and tends
to be rather wild. But I also agree with Lelia - children need a variety of
different experiences in order to grow and change intellectually, etc.
