Is not the espressivo in the 4th/5th measure of the Brahms no 2 but a
simple preparatory inflection, and preparation for the next measure (6)
which leads into to the climax of the phrase - the C & Bb in measure 7?
There could even be (and in fact >is) a natural crescendo on the C & Eb at
the end of measure 6.
