A "me too" -- it's interesting to compare a performance that we tooters
would consider "over the top" with what our string compatriots do.
Violinists I hang with consider wind musicians hopelessly square; one friend
chalks it up to "too much marching band." I don't buy that -- IMHO, the
superior rhythmic integrity of wind musicians has more to do with the
definiteness of our attack -- but it is an interesting comparison
nonetheless.

Equally interesting is the flip side, where we borrow their music. I've
listened to a number of recordings of the Copland Violin Sonata; it works so
much better on clarinet, don't you think?
