I'm playing "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" right now. It's one of those
deals where budget restraints allow for only two woodwind players. I'm
playing a touch of flute, a modest amount of clarinet and bass clarinet,
but spend most of the time playing bassoon. Because of this, the
clarinet and bass clarinet sit for long periods of time, allowing these
reeds dry out. It has been a major problem for me.

I think I've solved the problem, though. On my bass clarinet, the metal
mouthpiece cap won't go fully on over the Oleg ligature I'm using,
leaving a fairly large open window where the cap slots around the screw
area. I taped over this opening. Secondly, I stuffed a wad of toilet
paper into the end of the cap and soaked it with water. Bass clarinet
reed stayed humidified and ready to go all night long last night.

On clarinet, I'm using a plastic cap, Vito variety, that has a fairly
large triangular hole cut into the end of it, allowing quite a bit of
breathing. While this cap fully goes on and there is less space between
the tip end of the mouthpiece and the end of the cap, I'm going to add a
small wad of wet toilet paper to it tonight. I'm confident this will
work as well for the soprano.

I realize this is probably a dumb post, but some might find it useful.
