This is an oversimplified expression but, when applied, it
has the proper effect on embouchure configuration for a be-
ginner:

Tell your student to play as if (s)he were blowing a feather
off the tip of his/her chin. The upper lip is automatically
compelled to apply downward pressure on the mouthpiece, and
the chin is flattened. If (s)he consciously drops his/her
jaw a little while blowing at the "feather", this will re-
move unnecessary jaw pressure on the reed, and your student
will be off to a good start.

With this basic foundation in place, it then becomes a matter
of practicing and performing enough to strengthen the muscles,
such that the next level of embouchure development may be ad-
dressed.
