This statement of course is true. However, that does not prove the
converse. In other words, while the contention that newer is always better
is not true, that does not mean that there is never any such thing as
improvement. Not all new items are better than all old ones, but some of
them may be better. Not all old ones were of excellent quality to begin
with.

A 1984 Yugo can be made "as good as new," but why would anyone want to do
so?
