One other point: the bore itself (basic shape and size, as well as
accuracy) makes a difference also. Somebody on this list mentioned
that they asked Francois Kloc if he could rebore one of his own
instruments, and Mr. Kloc said "No, it's not possible." So it seems
unlikely to me that a technician could make *reliable* alterations to
the bore of an old clarinet even if the technician felt that a different
bore would improve the instrument.
