I`m noticing there`s some considerable activity at present, some of which
is wonderfully amusing, some unfortunately not quite so. I am indeed quite
shocked at how some individuals, (perhaps not plural) feel the need to hiss
and spit, as a means of defence, when "points of view" not necessarily
stated as "true fact", crop up in discussion.
Would listers allow me to hopefully calm these quite ruthlessly aimed posts,
(over the last 2 to 3 weeks) by calling for a more tolerant attitude towards
points of view.
Not everyone can agree to some views which are aired in here. And there lies
the rich opportunity for the exchange of individual ideas, i.e.
disagreements, perfect agreement, compromises, new discoveries. The internet
is a wonderfully new and innovative way for us to exchange these ideas
globally. There are bound to be
controversies within this framework. What we all need to be on our guard
against, is where uncomfortable, even offensive exchanges of ideas "swell
up" within us, causing us to reply in offensive ways.
Everyone`s tolerance levels are as diverse as the sum total of compositions
written since the bushmen of the Kalahari snorted through their 3 hole
"flutes", long before Egypt or Babylon.
So - - -why do we appreciate music? Because it gives us pleasure? Because it
enables those of us who do not hold strong conversational or personality
abilities to express the restricted inner self? To enable some of us to earn
our "bread and butter"? Let us therefore please, appreciate, and respect
those points of view which we do not endear to our own a little more. We, as
musicians, (Thank God for the talent He has bequeathed to us all) have to
rise above this hissing & spitting "pox" in us, and use our "grey matter" up
top to voice our replies in here, with discretion, and less belligerency.
That`s all.
Best wishes to all,
Tony W.
