Regarding Bill Brannen, he has a bitterness about him - that I think came
from getting burned too many times. >>

I wish we didn't have this kind of thing on a public list like this.

The Brannens have done my work for a good quarter century now--I've been in
their shop in Evanston, and have done a ton of shipping clarinets to them and
receiving them back--always silky smooth, working better than I ever would
have imagined. The work is good and it lasts a long, long time if the horn
is treated well. Bill tells me what's on his mind, yes--if the horn is
dirty, he lets me know about it! But he treats me with respect and I get
very good service.

And I've done a good bit of repair work too, and understand full well not
wishing to work on this instrument or that. I defend his right to not work
on an instrument that he feels that will only be a frustration to him, just
as I defend a physician's right to decline to treat a patient whom he or she
regards as having problems beyond his/her competence or specialty.

My two cents' worth.

Chuck West
