In the case of drums, which was my context, they are prelearned fills=20=

used to bring in a new musical phrases in a piece of music. (It is=20
actually more complicated than that, but I'm trying to remember that thi=

is a Clarinet list). They (licks) may also be copies of typicals fills =

used by a favorite drummer. Many Drummers spend hours learning the fill=
s=20
that other drummers have played or are noted for. Ultimately they become=
=20
walking libraries of other drummers "licks". If a drummer happens to=20=

play a particularly ear catching fill, that another drummer has never=20=

heard played, he will told that it was a cool "lick".
