That was a case where greedy marketers made the fatal mistake. They wanted
to double the store shelf space they could occupy by having two different
brands of their own competing against each other. But the consumer loyalty
to the OLD formula was much stronger than they anticipated. The only way
they could get people to even TRY the new formula was to withdraw the old
from the market. And we all remember how well THAT turned out! But that's
why Buffet has to market the Greenlines as if they are only SLIGHTLY
different from the regular ones. Clarinetists in general seem to be
somewhat resistant to change. Touting the Greenline as radically new and
different would have us running the other way with our hands over our ears!
We like our "Coca-Cola Classic" just fine, thank you.
