Bill,

Now you have the *experience* to know why alternating is preferable to
sliding!

An aid some people use for those slide fingerings is to lightly touch the
side of your nose with the sliding pinky, to get a bit of oil on the
finger. You may want to then wipe that finger on shirt or pants to have
just enough.
