IMHO, this fantasy with reed fastiousness is for the birds. As long as the
mouthpiece is cleaned once a week and the reed is wiped dry after playing,
the tone and crud police won't show up at your house and neither will you
end up in the poorhouse having to by reeds more often. I have kept reeds on
the mouthpiece for 40 years with no trouble. I even use a different
mouthpiece for each clarinet (yes, one for my A, and my Bb, and my Eb, and
my C).

Until Guy Legere came out with his new reeds, I would buy three or four
boxes of reeds every year. I never had any problem making almost all of
them play, only throwing away a reed if it was damaged beyond repair. I
have always gotten nice comments about my playing and I even dare to use
this reed system with my eefer without difficulty.
Today I use the Legere reeds because they are no-hassle and nobody has been
able to hear a difference. I have not bought any new Bb reeds since last
fall, when I started using the Legere. I am waiting for the e-flat reed to
appear and I will by three and ditch those boxes that I carry around with me.

Incidentally, I don't know about anybody else, but I can take a new reed out
of the box and within twenty seconds make it play (well). I see so many
others struggle with reeds and I keep my mouth shut, but I don't understand
what all the hullabaloo is about. I must admit though, my high school
private teacher could never figure out
how I managed to make so many reeds play so well so quickly. Maybe I should
write
a book. :-)
