How would you like me to explain it to you, Tony?

The story is a malicious fabrication that effectively demeans the many
young composers who struggle to write music and have it performed, often
against very great odds.

Some of their music may not be very good -- indeed, statistically, most
of it *must be* quite bad -- but the sort of arrogance and ignorance
ascribed to the composers in the story is very rare, if indeed it occurs
at all.

Though I'm sure *you* didn't mean any harm in telling it, I think it's
rather for people who repeat stories like that to explain why they think
that they're true.

Yes, it probably would have.

I was probably a bit put off by your willingness to join the 'knock
Schoenberg' bandwagon (just as you *appeared* to be willing to join the
'knock young "up-and-coming" composers' bandwagon) without having heard
the masterpiece in question, as in:

I liked the Shakespeare, but didn't find the other bit funny.

Why didn't you find *my* post funny, by the way?-)
