In the 20 years I've spent in the field band where we had a section of 12-14
players about half used to leave their reeds on the mouthpiece. Many
including myself use to keep them in zip lock bags to keep the reeds from
drying out. Iggy Gennusa used to leave the reed on the mouthpiece and not
move it! soaking the reed and the mouthpiece in water when he was getting
ready to play! He believed that once you found that magic spot that reed
should stay put! at least until you feel like refacing your mouthpiece. I'm
not that sold on that idea but I tell you, I have a reed on just about every
mouthpiece that plays one each of my instruments, Eb, C Bb-A, Bass Clarinet,
sop, alto and tenor Sax plus the 3 or 4 different Bb clarinet mouthpieces. It
makes life doubling a lot easier.
