Jim,
It looks as tho` yours is a little more serious than mine.
I developed the same symptoms as yours 5 years ago, (I`m 58 now). Both my
index fingers, but I could snap them straight on their own. My doctor told
me that I would eventually need an op. I exercised them constantly and they
no longer bother me, (famous last words!). My left hand "little" has been
playing up also for a couple of years. It started to get bad, (painful),
altho` again I could snap it back on it`s own. I started to exercise it and
it`s better than what it was, but not as good as the others. I play piano
also, but cocktail jazz just doesn`t require anything at all down at that
end of the keyboard. As >you say, during the day they`re O.K. They don`t
interfere with playing clarinet.
Not much help I`m afraid. You need someone who`s experienced the op. for a
post-op. report.
Best wishes for when your turn comes - - - -
Take care.
Tony W.
