Hi all (again),

snip <<< but as long as there are band
directors out there who take that stance, parents are somewhat at
their
mercy.

As long as one lets others walk on them, this foolishness will continue.
This is public school where educators make recommendations, not demands.
When the schools tried to foist this off on the parents in my area
of the country, the parents went to court (and won).

snip<<< it appears that sometimes band directors fault
a student's ability to "blend" with the group on having an
instrument of a
different brand and model.

And how does the band director get the clarinets to blend with the
trumpets ? More foolishness!! There is not enough difference in
the quality of sound of beginners to warrant this demand. The
director would get a better blend of sound by requesting that all his
students use the same brand of a quality mouthpiece.

snip <<< I know this has been discussed before,
and many feel that it should be a non-issue---Not many people will
tolerate a parent coming in and trying to get them to change their belief
system.

Try telling them they all have to drive Cadillacs and see what their
responses are then. The band director isn't God and if he claims to be God,
tell him you are an atheist.

snip <<< but it takes a very dedicated person
with lots of time to do enough research to make a decision that
"goes
against the grain."

It only take someone with good common sense to know that what is
going on here is wrong. As long as parents allow this type of situation to
exist, the band directors and music stores will continue to take advantage
this way. For heaven's sake people, stand up for yourselves. If you don't,
no one else will! As you can see, this whole situation has me pretty riled.
This is exactly what happened in my child's school district and when the
parents said NO MORE!, it ended VERY quickly.
