Michael Bolton--a 2nd-rate pop singer--released an abomination
called "My Secret Passion," a collection of opera arias

Tony says:-
As we`ve had quite a few operatic "singers" forced upon us all trying to
sing popular music, I`m surprised the pop music producers havn`t thought of
introducing us to more "Michael Boltons`" i.e. pop singers singing opera. I
do believe that I may have spoken too soon concerning this angle of
recording - somewhere, sometime soon - - - - again - - - -

The two leads had great voices,

Tony says:-
Are you intimating "but NOT for this kind of project"? Apart from this
recording, and Kiri`s other poppy stuff, I`m not sure I wholly agree Ken.
To me, Jose`s intonation has always been on the "sharp" side. While Kiri`s
Mozart has almost been sublime at times.

Tony says:- I`ll go for it:-
I think a lot of us still remember the era when American music became what
it is. Obviously, it is the different cultures coming together and
intigrating/mixing their artistic ideas. A good few of the popular song
writers inherited their talent for writing a "good tune" from their Easten
European Jewish ancestry. (Where did
Leonard`s family originate?). Mix that with Italian talent and one`s back
begins to tingle. Mix it again with the rhythms of South America and Puerto
Rico, and WALLOP, the GREAT American music hits the world for six!
It`s as easy as that Ken.

All in all tho` is it not futile discussion and a waste of time discussing
the artistic merit of performances like this on recordings. Are these rec.
only put together for - here we go again - PROFIT? I expect it sold enough
to justify this "new phenomenon", the public desire(?) for the "World`s
Finest Artistes" replacing aging Broadway stars, and even lesser known
British singers. Should not our energies be directed instead to
advising/educating the recording industry what hopeless non-musical crap
they produce in the name of "innovative art"? The saddest part of all this,
is that the artistes (singers) themselves have not known how
to avoid (all cloth ears?) making fools of themselves. I cannot for the life
of me think that it was the payroll that
attracted them in the first place. They actually THOUGHT that they could do
it!!!!!

Hook this guy off quick - Whas his name Tony Windfield?
