He was irritated, but it wasn't because the singers were too "operatic." In
one instance, it was because Carerras, who has a great voice but can't count
his way out of a wet paper bag, couldn't figure out where to enter and
essentially wanted a rehearsal in the recording studio.

Also, I have a feeling that part of the display by Bernstein was because he
knew he was being videotaped, and his histrionics were part of a display of
his gigantic ego.
