Tony W,

Thanks for your message.

I had tried Myatt's. The Myatt custom case cover has been in the Myatt catalogue for at least the
past 2-3 years (the earliest one I still have kicking around). When I emailed them to ask how to go
about ordering, Val Cheeseman (their clarinet bod) emailed me back saying that they had had trouble
with their supplier and were trying to get a new supplier, and to try back in a month or two. When I
tried back a month or two later I am now advised to try again after Christmas. I may still do that
as I haven't found anything similar (for a similar price) anywhere else.

I used to have a black leather case cover when I was still at school (15-16 years ago) which had
been made for me by an old polish leather-worker by the name of H Rome who had a shop in Glasgow and
had made several of these to custom measurements in the past. The shop has been away for about 14-15
years, and I fear that it is likely Mr Rome has "gone" too. Here's what happened to my old one:
Stuck for space on the family holiday, I took my case, but left the cover in the house. The house
was broken into sometime after Mr Rome's shop closed, and the police suspected that the burglar must
have thought my case cover (complete with some pieces of music in the pocket!) would be a handy
thing to cart my mother's jewellery off in. Ha - he'll have been puzzled to find that the nice
leather bag he stole had no handles! Hence my quest for a new one now that I have moved out of a
flat and into a house with fewer neighbours to annoy...

My wife thinks that a case cover is a silly concept. She thinks that a case and a cover must be oine
and the same, and you surely don't need two. Ah, the uninitiated! She even embarrassed me by
replying to Val Cheeseman's email to say that case covers sound silly. And that my son had gone back
to sleep. She thought she was forwarding the message to me at work. Bless.

The quest is still ongoing so if you (or any other listers) hear of any other supplier - the leather
doesn't matter so much if the price is around £40 (GBP) and it is going to be a good fit. (double
Buffet case) and has a music pocket.

Regards,

Ian
