The Legere reed is made of plastic, Tony. I haven't yet taken my Cordier
reed trimmer to it, primarily because the tiny pamphlet with which the
reed is packed recommends against it for fear of tip damage. At $12.50
per reed, I'm a little hesitant to experiment beyond something that has
already worked for somebody else.
