is: does a clarinet body have some sounding board (and/or sound
absorbing) effects anyway?

The answer is yes and yes. measurements, unfortunately no longer online (from the "Woodwind Quarterly", now defunct - I've tried to get permission to reprint but got lost in the sale & trade of the magazine rights), showed the amplitude of the wall vibrations of a clarinet body to be less than 10-6 (one millionth) the amplitude of the air column. If we think of one millionth as -60db (one way of measuring the difference), we'd probably be more apt to conclude that the clarinet body material does not _appreciably_ affect the sound. A difference of -60db would be hard to discern.

The clarinet does absorb energy from the air column and converts it to thermal energy, but I'm not sure how easily we could measure the temperature rise :^).
